The purpose of the GJLS Travel Program (GTP) is to provide players living in the Gahanna-Jefferson School District an opportunity to improve and develop by playing in a competitive environment. The teaching of fundamental skills will be emphasized on all levels. The success of the program is not defined solely by the wins and losses, or by the number of championships or tournaments won. The quality of play and sportsmanship exhibited by each team is an equally important measure of the success of the program.
Tryouts are held near the middle of July for the next year’s season. Specific tryout dates are typically announced in late June or early July.
Ages 8U to 12U:
The GTP baseball season begins April 1 and ends approximately July 15 each year. Most Gahanna travel teams play in the COYBL league and follow the dates set by this league. The head coach of each team sets the practice, game, and tournament schedules each season. Indoor practices typically begin the first week of January and end by early March or depending on the spring weather.
The approximate number of games played in this age group ranges from 30 – 50.
Ages 13U to 17/18U:
All Ohio travel baseball organizations must follow OHSAA rules regarding eligibility. Players who are part of a middle or high school baseball team are not allowed to participate in practices or games until they have been released from their middle or high school team. If no player on the GTP team is playing on a school team during the school baseball season, that team can begin the season April 1.
The approximate number of games played in this age group ranges from 45 – 70.
